Proceeding contribution from John Hayes (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 1 April 2009. It occurred during Debate on bill on Geneva Conventions and United Nations Personnel (Protocols) Bill [Lords].
Geneva Conventions and United Nations Personnel (Protocols) Bill [Lords]
I am delighted that my right hon. Friend has given way, but I am surprised, given his encyclopaedic knowledge of such matters, that he knows nothing about the group Red Crystal. Having said that, he has made a serious point about universality. As I am sure that he will acknowledge, the point is that if we compromise universality, which lies at the heart of the principle of having a Red Cross or a Red Crescent, we will endanger lives.
