Proceeding contribution from Baroness Laing of Elderslie (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Monday, 11 May 2009. It occurred during Debate on bill on Equality Bill.

Equality Bill

I thank the hon. and learned Lady for giving way. She knows perfectly well that the joke by my hon. Friend the Member for Shipley (Philip Davies) about the society against political correctness does not reflect the view of the Conservative party in general, which is in favour of the consolidation measures in the Bill, as we have said again and again. The hon. and learned Lady has denied knowing that, but we are in favour of those measures, and of the issue of equality. She is misrepresenting our views, but the reasoned amendment is more reasonable than the Bill.
