Proceeding contribution from Mike Weir (Scottish National Party) in the House of Commons on Monday, 6 July 2009. It occurred during Opposition day on Identity Cards.
Identity Cards
The figures from the hon. Member for Wolverhampton, South-West (Rob Marris) are based on the Government's cost of £4.9 billion. Alternative figures from the London School of Economics have put the cost as high as £10 billion to £19 billion, and, on those figures, more than the entire population would have to have identity cards before the scheme broke even.
