Proceeding contribution from Bob Russell (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 5 January 2010. It occurred during Ministerial statement on Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Queen's Diamond Jubilee

The announcement will be welcomed by the Scout and Guide movements in particular, as well as by calendar manufacturers—such as Rose printers of Colchester—which have to work two years in advance, so I appreciate notice of the bank holiday. Will the Minister elaborate on his reference to national competitions for city status? I recall that, for the golden jubilee, England was disproportionately discriminated against. I therefore urge the Government to ensure that towns in England are treated more favourably than they were for the golden jubilee.
