Proceeding contribution from Parmjit Dhanda (Labour) in the House of Commons on Monday, 22 February 2010. It occurred during Debate on Report from the House of Commons Reform Committee on Rebuilding the House.

Report from the House of Commons Reform Committee on Rebuilding the House

I disagree with my hon. Friend, as I think the media take quite a lot of interest in this place. They do not, however, always take an interest in the positive elements of what goes on here. As Members, we have all had to deal with that problem, particularly in recent months. In conclusion, I truly believe that these reforms are positive and I hope that the whole House will get behind them. I congratulate all Members who served on this important Committee, but if the public are to view this not just as deck chairs being moved around a floating parliamentary Titanic from the Treasury Benches to the Back Benches, we must be honest and see this as only the first stage of making even greater reforms that will reach out to the electorate.
