Proceeding contribution from John Stanley (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 4 March 2010. It occurred during Adjournment debate on Global Security (Non-Proliferation).
Global Security (Non-Proliferation)
On a point of fact, I believe that I am correct and that the Minister may wish to review what he has said. There is a sub-strategic nuclear role for Trident. The Government's policy, given in the 1998 strategic defence review, is that""The credibility of deterrence also depends on retaining an option for a limited strike that would not automatically lead to a full scale nuclear exchange. Unlike Polaris and Chevaline, Trident must also be capable of performing this 'sub-strategic' role.""
