Proceeding contribution from Chuka Umunna (Labour) in the House of Commons on Monday, 8 November 2010. It occurred during Debate on bill on Finance (No.2) Bill.
Finance (No.2) Bill
No doubt the Government will consider my hon. Friend's interesting suggestion and comment accordingly. One of the main problems with the new measure is that people fall off a cliff edge when they hit the higher rate. Have the Government considered introducing a taper mechanism to prevent that anomaly from occurring, because obviously that is where the unfairness shines through?
