Proceeding contribution from Lord McKenzie of Luton (Labour) in the House of Lords on Tuesday, 1 March 2011. It occurred during Debate on bill and Committee proceeding on Pensions Bill [HL].

Pensions Bill [HL]

I am grateful for that response. I rather took from reading the literature that the cash flow issue was the real driver in all this, but from what the Minister has said there are obviously broader ramifications. I will read the record. Might the Minister deal with the point about the other minor amendment about defining a tax year? At the moment the Bill says, "““the tax year beginning with the specified date or a subsequent tax year””." That presupposes that the specified date would be at the start of a tax year. My question was: does that inevitably follow?
