Proceeding contribution from Danny Alexander (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 30 March 2011. It occurred during Ministerial statement on The Budget.
The Budget
I am grateful for that question and for the welcome for the Budget. My hon. Friend will know that in last year’s Budget, we announced a reduction in small companies corporation tax rate. There are other measures in this year’s Budget that I think will be welcomed by small businesses, such as the extension of the research and development tax credit regime for small firms, taking it from the current rate to 200% and then to 225%. I hope that that will give small firms additional incentives to engage in R and D activities, which will help them to develop their businesses.
