Proceeding contribution from Kerry McCarthy (Labour) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 11 August 2011. It occurred during Ministerial statement on Public Disorder.
Public Disorder
Given that we have had a year of social unrest, from the student protests and direct action against the cuts to the looting of the past few days, as well as the riots in Bristol a couple of months ago, all of which have put pressure on our police forces, I urge the Prime Minister to listen to the chair of my local police authority, who wrote to me overnight to say the last thing the authority needs at the moment is the disruption and distraction of elections for police commissioners.
