Living Standards

The right hon. Gentleman's heart is in the right place, but his head is in the clouds. We can argue over definitions and data, but let me read to him the response of the chief executive of Citizens Advice, who says:"““The Chancellor has broken the promise he made in last year's Budget to protect families on the lowest incomes from the impact of last year's harsh cuts by increasing child tax credits above inflation, leaving them now with no protection at all… Make no mistake, this—" yesterday's announcements—"““means children in the poorest homes are at risk of going cold and hungry to pay for the new schemes the Chancellor has announced today””." Why do the poorest in society have to pay for the schemes that were announced yesterday? The right hon. Gentleman's heart is in the right place, but he has not thought this through.
