Pakistan: Christianity
- Question
-
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what steps he is taking to recognise and support Pakistani Christians and support the protection of freedom of religion in that country.
- Answer
-
The UK remains committed to promoting freedom of religion or belief for all, including through our engagement with the Government of Pakistan. In my meeting with Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dar on 27 August, I raised a number of human rights issues. We regularly raise the rights of religious minorities with Pakistani counterparts, while UK-funded programmes promote interfaith dialogue and support marginalised communities. We will continue to urge Pakistan to protect the rights and safety of all religious communities, including Christians, in line with its international obligations.
