Written question asked by Patrick Spencer (Conservative) on Monday, 14 September 2026, in the House of Commons. It was due for an answer on Monday, 12 October 2026. It was answered by Josh MacAlister (Labour) on Tuesday, 13 October 2026 on behalf of the Department for Education.

Vocational Education

Question

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what assessment she has made of the adequacy of the availability of specialist facilities and equipment in secondary schools to deliver the proposed technical education pathways from September 2028.

Answer

The department is still at an early stage of developing the new technical education pathways. Our ambition is to give every young person access to high-quality technical education pathways from age 14 and support progression into further study, training and skilled employment. We will work with the Mayoral and Strategic Authorities and local leaders to design locally tailored, vocationally focussed pathways for each region to begin rolling them out from September 2028. We will work closely with Strategic Authorities, schools, colleges and employers to understand the implications of the proposals for staffing, facilities and infrastructure.
