Drugs: Packaging
- Question
-
To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what assessment her department has made of the potential merits of requiring pharmaceutical companies to contribute towards, or provide, a comprehensive national collection and recycling system for medicine blister packs.
- Answer
-
Medicine blister packs are obligated under Extended Producer Responsibility for packaging. The scheme incentivises producer-funded take-back arrangements, as producers do not pay disposal fees on packaging separately collected and recycled through these schemes. There are currently no plans to mandate specific collection arrangements for blister packs.
