Proceeding contribution from Christine Jardine (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 26 April 2022. It occurred during Urgent question on Prime Minister’s Visit to India.

Prime Minister’s Visit to India

Had the Prime Minister been here today, I would have inquired of him whether, while he was in India, he impressed on the Indian Prime Minister the fact that the £2 billion increase in trade with Russia at a time when we had sanctioned it in respect of Ukraine potentially undermined

our position, and whether he tried to persuade the Prime Minister of India that that was not an acceptable route for a UK trading partner. Notwithstanding the statement that the Minister read out, will she assure us that the Prime Minister made the case to the Indian Government for sanctions against Russia?
