The Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport visited Yorkshire on 28 January and the Minister for Culture, Communications and the Creative Industries visited the north-west on the 17 January and 7 March.

Her Majesty’s Government have made and received a number of representations to and from the World Heritage Committee in relation to Liverpool World Heritage property’s World Heritage status, including:
the state of conservation reports in 2006, 2009, 2011 and 2012;
reports of monitoring missions, and
decisions of various committee meetings since the site’s inscription in 2004.
Her Majesty’s Government also engaged with the World Heritage Committee in preparing for the 36th World Heritage Committee, where the decision was taken to place Liverpool on the List of World Heritage in Danger, hosting the preceding monitoring mission in 2011 and producing a subsequent state of conservation report (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/liverpool-state-of-conservation-report-2013).

The Government pay tribute to the victims and the families affected by the tragic Warrington bomb attacks. There are no official plans to commemorate the 20th anniversary of this tragedy, but local communities, particularly those in and around Warrington, are encouraged to mark this occasion.

The Minister for Culture, Communications and the Creative Industries (Ed Vaizey) has met with the Office of Communications (Ofcom) regarding silent and abandoned calls, and the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), concerning unsolicited marketing calls, three times since July 2012, to improve the effectiveness of the current regulatory system. Consequently, significant improvements have been achieved in improving information available to consumers, through simpler website pages and a new Ofcom consumer guide, as well as a focus on improved enforcement action against those found in breach of the regulations. The Department for Culture, Media and Sport will also include representatives from consumer groups in a forthcoming round table on this issue, which will consider what further improvements can be made. Also, Ofcom has improved and clarified information, which is provided to consumers online at: http://consumers. ofcom.org.uk/tell-us/telecoms/privacy and their consumer guide provides detailed background information and signposts the correct place to make a complaint about the full range of nuisance calls at http://consumers. ofcom.org.uk/2012/10/tackling-nuisance-calls-and-messages.
