The Government announced the Teachers’ Student Loan Reimbursement scheme in October 2017, fulfilling our manifesto commitment to help new teachers stay in the profession by forgiving their student loan repayments. The scheme is a pilot that is testing the impact of offering this incentive on teacher retention. It is aimed at early career teachers of languages and science who qualified since 2013/14, and is available in specific local authorities. Information on the scheme is available here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/teachers-student-loan-reimbursement-guidance-for-teachers-and-schools.
The scheme has been designed in this way because retention is most challenging early in teachers' careers, and because science and languages are in high demand by schools.
The local authorities where teachers’ student loan reimbursement applies have high need for teachers. This is determined by the 'Defining Achieving Excellence Areas' methodology, available here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/defining-achieving-excellence-areas-methodology.
High need areas not included in the scheme are in the control group, which will enable the Department to conduct a robust evaluation.

The Government of Sierra Leone has not requested debt relief. Sierra Leone is not currently in debt distress, although it is at high risk. Any country wishing to pursue debt relief should do so through the existing multilateral fora.
UK bilateral aid to Sierra Leone includes ongoing support to increase revenue generation and improve public financial management to address their debt position.
In the last 6 months, the UK has supported decisions taken by the IMF and the World Bank to provide additional financial support packages for Sierra Leone. Through our contributions to the EU and African Development Bank, we are also providing further support to the Government of Sierra Leone to finance their development needs.

The House of Commons has a debt management process regarding the recovery of monies owed by all parties. In relation to Members’ catering accounts, all sums due are expected to be settled within six weeks. Statements are sent out monthly and undisputed amounts owed are charged ten days later to the Members nominated card. Any amounts outstanding after the settlement date are followed up by emails, letters and telephone calls.
As shown in table 1, a total sum of £440 currently outstanding against catering and banqueting accounts is related to Member expenditure. There are no amounts outstanding in relation to former Members.

Water companies have in place a number of measures to support those customers who are in debt or may be struggling to pay their water bill. The support offered can vary but includes short term concessions such as payment holidays or crisis breaks, debt write-off schemes, charitable trust grants and social tariffs.
All water companies have put in place social tariffs that provide a discounted bill to qualifying customers. This follows guidance issued by the Government in 2012 that encourages water companies to develop social tariff schemes in consultation with their customers. The Government believes that companies are best placed to develop social tariffs to reflect local needs and views.
WaterSure is a national mandated tariff that all water companies have to provide to qualifying customers. The aim is to support metered customers on a low income who have unavoidably high water use either for health reasons or because they have 3 or more children.
Most recently, the Government has introduced data sharing provisions under the Digital Economy Act that will enable water companies to better identify those customers who may need help paying their water bill.
The Consumer Council for Water offers support and advice to all customers of water companies. This includes advice about organisations and charities who may be able to offer them a grant to help them out of debt.
