That this House supports the Unheard Voices - Women Can't Wait campaign by Concern Worldwide aimed at sending a clear message to the UN Summit in September 2010 to discuss progress on the Millennium Development Goals; notes the case made that of over one billion people now going to bed hungry every night at least 60 per cent. are women, despite the fact that they produce the majority of food in developing countries; further notes that women work two-thirds of the world's working hours, produce more than half of the world's food but only earn 10 per cent. of the world's income; agrees that women play a vital but unrecognised role in the fight against hunger; recognises the need for the UN and world leaders to act now to deliver support to poor women in the fight against hunger; and calls on them to do so, by listening to poor women's voices, developing gender-sensitive policy and programmes and by ensuring that funding and other support measures reach them.

That this House notes that there has been a significant reduction in resources and funding for research and development in the production horticulture sector over the last 20 years; further notes that research and development is vital for the industry to be able to innovate, improve productivity and deal with new legislation; is deeply concerned that this decline in research and development capacity will mean that the UK is unable to address the scientific challenges raised by new EU-crop protection legislation; observes that, as other EU countries have a stable research base, thus the UK's horticulture sector will become increasingly less competitive; and, as a first step, calls on the Government to match-fund income raised by the levy on the industry through the Horticultural Development Board.

That this House notes the disproportionate impact on building societies of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) levy, resulting from the failure of Bradford and Bingley plc, the Icelandic banks and London Scottish Bank; recognises that building societies' share of the levy, approximately ??200 million per annum in each of the next three years, is equivalent to about 15 per cent. of the sector's pre-tax profit for 2007-08 financial year ends; notes that building societies' share of the levy for years beyond 2011 is uncertain, but could well be higher than ??200 million per annum; acknowledges that the impact on building societies contrasts starkly with the banking sector, where the FSCS levy is typically well below five per cent. of pre-tax profits over a similar accounting period; further notes that the current allocation of the FSCS levy works to the detriment of building societies' members, their savers and borrowers; acknowledges that no building society has ever made a call on the FSCS or its predecessor schemes; and calls on the Government to introduce a more equitable scheme for funding the insurance of deposits of failed banks.

That this House congratulates the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway Preservation Society on 40 years of operating a safe, reliable and magnificent heritage railway from Keighley to Oxenhope in West Yorkshire, formerly the West Riding; recognises that the society has organised the running of its railway on democratic principles, which has meant that those members who do the work also make the decisions; remembers with great affection the two founder members of the society, the late Bob Cryer MP and the late Ralph Povey, who had the foresight, imagination and tenacity to call a public meeting following closure by British Railways in 1962 and then pushed forward the formation of the society and subsequently its operating company; wishes also to remember with gratitude the very many society members who have devoted a considerable part of their lives giving their time, skills and energy to volunteering on the Worth Valley Railway which will remain a wonderful and lasting memorial to all; and recognises however that were a further memorial needed then doubtless it would be the 1970 feature film, The Railway Children, all of the location work taking place on or near the line and the three steam locomotives used being the true stars of this much loved film.
