That this House recognises the valuable work of the Countryside Alliance in organising its annual Countryside Clean-up, taking place from 20 March to early April 2026; notes the significant contribution of volunteers from rural communities, including farmers, landowners and local residents, who give their time to remove litter from verges, hedgerows, footpaths and farmland; acknowledges that littering and fly-tipping continue to pose serious risks to wildlife, livestock and the natural beauty of the countryside; commends the campaign’s role in bringing communities together to take practical action and raise awareness of rural crime and environmental stewardship; and encourages wider public participation in protecting and preserving the countryside for future generations.

We are listening to the sector to ensure their views are heard. We regularly meet with a range of farming stakeholders, including the National Farmers Union (NFU), the Country Land and Business Association (CLA), and the Tenant Farmers Association (TFA), and will continue to meet with stakeholders.
As part of this effort, the Secretary of State Steve Reed and Farming Minister Daniel Zeichner have met with NFU President Tom Bradshaw repeatedly to clarify changes in the Budget. Officials have also met with NFU, TFA and CLA representatives and recently attended the Eggs and Poultry Industry Conference as part of ongoing engagement with the sector.
The Secretary of State spoke at the CLA’s annual conference last month to hear from farmers directly. Unfortunately the Conservative Party did not decide to send a representative.
Minister Zeichner also recently attended and spoke at Northern Farming Conference, the Eggs and Poultry Industry Conference, the Agricultural Industries Confederation Conference, The Tenant Farmers Association Executive Committee and the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution’s parliamentary reception.
We will continue to listen to farmers’ concerns to ensure their views are heard.

Home Office Ministers and officials have regular meetings with Ministerial colleagues and others as part of the process of policy development and delivery. As was the case with previous administrations, it is not the Government’s practice to provide details of all such meetings. It is, however, the case that we have discussed the involvement of medical professionals in firearms licensing procedures with a range of interested parties including the police, representatives of the medical profession, including the General Medical Council, and shooting organisations including the British Shooting Sports Council and the Countryside Alliance, and we shall continue to do so, as appropriate.

Defra has received representations from a number of organisations about the repeal of the Hunting Act 2004. The Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, my right hon. Friend the Member for Meriden (Mrs Spelman), has not considered placing the brent goose on schedule 2 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (‘the quarry list’), and has had no discussions on the matter with either the Countryside Alliance or the British Association for Shooting and Conservation.
