Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Stephen Pound (Labour), on Wednesday, 6 February 2008, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 18 members in total.
SOUTH ASIAN ARTS
That this House notes with deep concern the impact that the Arts Council cuts of ??500,000 in respect of the Watermans Arts Centre and ??170,000 in respect of Tara Arts will have on the increasingly popular and blossoming South Asian arts scene; fears that the Watermans may not now see a new Parminder Nagra or Tara Arts see another Natinder Verma; and calls on the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport to use his best endeavours to protect the South Asian arts that are such a vital component of UK artistic life.
