Written question asked by Lord Berkeley (Labour), in the House of Lords. It was answered by Earl Attlee (Conservative) on Monday, 27 September 2010.
Shipping: Lighthouses
- Question
- To ask Her Majesty’s Government how many of the 52 recommendations made by the Atkins report, Assessment of the Provision of Marine Aids to Navigation around the United Kingdom and Ireland (March 2010), have been delivered in full to date; which recommendations will remain outstanding on 1 April 2011; and when the recommendations will be implemented in full.
- Answer
-
Seven of the recommendations have been fully implemented. In a Written Ministerial Statement on 26 July [Official Report, Cols WS134-5] it was announced that the Minister for Shipping did not intend to implement those recommendations relating to changing the basis on which light dues are currently charged, but that he would seek an equitable means of paying for marine aids to navigation. We anticipate that most of the remaining recommendations will have been implemented by April 2011 and that a negotiated solution to the imbalance of funding for aids to navigation in the Republic of Ireland will be taken forward as quickly as is reasonably possible.
