Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, if from April 1999 all ranks of all three services will move to a common leave allowance of 30 working days. - Inc ref to 'Policy for People' element of the Strategic Defence Review.

Answer: Mr. Key: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if from April 1999 all ranks of all three services will move to a common leave allowance of 30 working days. [76958] Mr. Doug Henderson: The "Policy for People" element of the Strategic Defence Review included a pledge that a Common Leave Allowance of 30 working days would be introduced for all Armed Forces personnel, regardless of rank or service, on 1 April 1999. The new policy will be introduced by the Naval Service and Royal Air Force on 1 March 1999, and by the Army on 1 April 1999. The date of introduction is governed by the Common Leave Year of each Service.
