Proceeding contribution from Helen Goodman (Labour) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 6 July 2005. It occurred during Debate on bill on Finance Bill.
Finance Bill
I am slightly puzzled by subsection (1B), which states:"ββThe Chancellor of the Exchequer shall publish a forecast based on the expected direction of international oil prices.ββ" That already happens. I have found six references to the oil price forecast in the financial statement and Budget report. It is one of the forecasts that is independently audited by the National Audit Office, and it reads directly through to the forecasts for North sea revenues and for hydrocarbon fuel duties, so I do not understand why the hon. Gentleman is proposing a new obligation to make a forecast.
