Proceeding contribution from Lord Hain (Labour) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 26 April 2006. It occurred during Debate on bill on Northern Ireland Bill.
Northern Ireland Bill
I beg to move, That the Bill be now read a Second time. The measure prepares the way for the restoration of devolved Government in Northern Ireland. On 15 May, the Assembly will meet for the first time for nearly four years. The Bill sets in statute 24 November as the date by which we must be able to restore devolution. That is the date by which the political parties in Northern Ireland must take responsibility for the Government of Northern Ireland, as they have been mandated to do.
