I do not know what the noble Earl, Lord Howe, is thinking of doing, but I am prepared to accept the noble Lord’s assurances about Amendment No. 37. However, Amendment No. 38, although I did not put my name to it, is a different matter. The Minister said, if I understood him correctly, that he thought ““therein”” was archaic. With respect, I do not think it is archaic; it is old-fashioned but not archaic. The great merit of the word ““therein”” is that it is absolutely 100 per cent precise. There can be no ambiguity. The same does not apply to the word ““there””. We do not want to run the risk of falling foul of the law of unintended consequences. I urge the Government to think again about Amendment No. 38.
