Proceeding contribution from Parmjit Dhanda (Labour) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 20 June 2006. It occurred during Debate on bill on Children and Adoption Bill [HL].
Children and Adoption Bill [Lords]
That is a fair point. All hon. Members receive correspondence about that. We want to test whether that is the case and whether there is an evidence base for that. I undertake to hold a review on exactly that. This is a substantial group of new clauses and I hope that hon. Members will forgive me for having been brief in dealing with each of them. I have said that our fundamental concern is that all the new clauses, in on way or another, could risk moving courts away from the statutory focus on doing what is best for the child. Having listened to the debate, I hope that hon. Members will consider the points that I have made and not press the new clauses to a vote.
