Proceeding contribution from Mike Gapes (Labour) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 19 October 2010. It occurred during Ministerial statement on Strategic Defence and Security Review.

Strategic Defence and Security Review

The Prime Minister has announced cuts and deferred defence decisions today, and tomorrow the Chancellor will announce cuts to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the BBC World Service, yet the national security strategy states:"β€œβ€œThe National Security Council has reached a clear conclusion that Britain's national interest requires us to reject any notion of the shrinkage of our influence.””" Given that statement, is it not true that the national security strategy is not worth the paper it is written on?
