Proceeding contribution from Lord Davies of Oldham (Labour) in the House of Lords on Wednesday, 19 January 2011. It occurred during Debate on bill and Committee proceeding on Energy Bill [HL].

Energy Bill [HL]

This is a power that stretches across the board, so I want reassurance in both instances. The noble Lord has been entirely reasonable, as he always is, but we are anxious that this is originating in primary legislation a concept which is merely practice elsewhere thus far. If it is built on precedent in other Acts to which energy companies or other providers respond, of course I am entirely reassured by his response. I just want a note to clarify that point. As the noble Lord has indicated that he will reassure the Committee on that point, I beg leave to withdraw the amendment. Amendment 16D withdrawn. Debate on whether Clause 16 should stand part of the Bill.
