I do not think I have time to give way, as I want to press the amendment to a Division. Nor do I think the Government have succeeded in persuading any Member of this House that it is anything other than voodoo economics to suggest that the cost of this rate change will be only £100 million. It is very likely to be closer to £3 billion than to £1 billion. As we remain wholly unpersuaded, we shall press the amendment to a vote— Three hours having elapsed since the commencement of proceedings, the debate was interrupted (Programme order, 16 April).
