Proceeding contribution from Lord Lester of Herne Hill (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Lords on Wednesday, 13 July 2005. It occurred during Debate on bill and Committee of the Whole House (HL) on Equality Bill (HL).

Equality Bill [HL]

Is the Minister aware that in the Sex Discrimination and Race Relations Acts similar powers were given for the reasons that she has just expressed, but without the safeguard of a commission first to consider such matters. I recognise that times have changed and that we are more sensitive to Henry VIII clauses than in those days, but would the Minister take a look at those statutes when she examines how best to comply will the recommendations of the Delegated Powers Committee?
