The history of professions goes back to 1700 and beyond. Mechanical engineers, for instance, are different because they are in a self-regulated profession and arrival is by examination. Botanists and all kinds of other people are members of professional bodies. There is no government regulation; there is an entirely self-regulated arrival. That may be overlaid by later legislation and so forth, but I wondered why this council was making such an extravagant claim in the media. On thinking about it after our previous session, it seemed to me that it must have some ideas up its sleeve on how it will protect its position. Otherwise, it would not have gone public in the way that it did.
