Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Bill

My Lords, my understanding of the amendment is that it simply puts right the problem of a United Kingdom Bill that uses police powers when policing in Scotland is a devolved matter. The process that the Minister has had to go through to put this right seems quite elaborate. Perhaps the Government should consider whether they can in some way alter the law in general, so that when this matter crops up in other Bills, such an amendment does not have to be made. I should think that it is possible to amend the Scotland Act 1998 in such a way that it covers future Bills. This matter will crop up all the time as the police operate across the UK, particularly on terrorist and asylum matters.
