Armed Forces Bill
moved Amendment No. 157: Page 138, line 2, leave out ““Secretary of State”” and insert ““Attorney General”” The noble Lord said: Our rather simple amendment questions whether it is appropriate that the Secretary of State is able to override compensation for miscarriages of justice when the Secretary of State is doubtless one of the interested parties. We are looking only for some form of independent non-Ministry of Defence alternative. The amendment suggests that it should be the Attorney-General, but we would be happy to see any independent assessment that the Government suggest. I beg to move.
