Proceeding contribution from Gordon Brown (Labour) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 11 July 2007. It occurred during Ministerial statement on Draft Legislative Programme.

Draft Legislative Programme

My hon. Friend is right to say that microgeneration has an important role to play in future. We set up a new microgeneration fund, which is heavily oversubscribed because of demand for wind turbines, solar power and other means of using energy more efficiently and in a low carbon way. We will extend that in future, but it is one part of the solution to meeting our energy needs in an environmentally friendly way. I hope that my hon. Friend will understand that the debate about nuclear power as well as that about the future of coal, oil and gas, is also important to the supply of energy.
