Proceeding contribution from Lord Eatwell (Labour) in the House of Lords on Monday, 26 January 2009. It occurred during Committee of the Whole House (HL) and Debate on bill on Banking Bill.

Banking Bill

As I said at the end of my previous remarks, I felt that the Government had not taken cognisance of the arguments associated with the Financial Stability Committee. It sorely tempts me to seek the views of the Committee, but it would be rather unfair to do that at this late hour. It would be more appropriate on Report, when I hope that we will have a larger attendance for this particular issue. We will return to it; the Government have got it wrong and do not have a coherent argument to express on why they think it is right. We should give them the chance to have another go at it. Amendment 178A not moved.
