Proceeding contribution from Lord Clinton-Davis (Labour) in the House of Lords on Monday, 2 March 2009. It occurred during Committee of the Whole House (HL) and Debate on bill on Borders, Citizenship and Immigration Bill [HL].

Borders, Citizenship and Immigration Bill [HL]

As I said before, the UNHCR considers this issue to be of paramount importance and many Members of this Committee share that view. What I would like the Minister to say is not that the Government will consider the issue but that the Government will be in touch with the UNHCR to derive from it the conditions that it is setting. We should be in absolute obeisance to what it has to say.
