Proceeding contribution from Bob Ainsworth (Labour) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 15 October 2009. It occurred during Debate on Defence Policy.
Defence Policy
I do not think that we will be prescriptive in that regard, but we need to have a discussion with all our partners. There is a NATO ministerial meeting next weekend, and the American process remains to be completed. However, I am hopeful that we can get to a position where we can accept that the conditions have been met, and that we can therefore agree to the troop uplift, in a relatively short period of time. However, I do not want to talk about any specific number of days or weeks.
