Proceeding contribution from Earl Attlee (Conservative) in the House of Lords on Monday, 20 December 2010. It occurred during Ministerial statement on Severe Winter Weather.
Severe Winter Weather
My Lords, I repeat: there is no complacency in Her Majesty's Government. One of the things that we need to avoid is getting out a long screwdriver and sticking it in places where it would be unhelpful. The noble Lord asked some important questions about fuel supplies for emergency services. I would be very surprised if the emergency services were not careful to ensure that their fuel stocks never go below a certain level so that they do not have to go into the market at precisely the wrong time, which is right now, when we need to avoid panic buying.
