Since I have accurately described in one sentence what my hon. Friend was going to say on new clause 7, I probably do not need to participate. The so-called independent consultative committee that is supposed to monitor the activities of Nottingham East Midlands airport is staffed by a chairman who is paid by the airport. That is fair enough—he is entitled to his salary—but I am not sure how independent that makes either him or the consultative committee. Why it is called ““consultative”” I have no idea—it has never consulted anybody in my constituency and draws its membership from a very local base.
