Proceeding contribution from Lord Berkeley (Labour) in the House of Lords on Wednesday, 26 October 2005. It occurred during Committee of the Whole House (HL) and Debate on bill on Road Safety Bill [HL].

Road Safety Bill [HL]

I am grateful to the Minister for her explanation. She is quite right—as is the noble Earl, Lord Attlee—that the key is probably not to put this measure in primary legislation. I am pleased that the powers exist already. As in so many other instances today, it would be nice to know how many people have been convicted or fined for these offences. I suspect that the Minister will say that the Government do not collect the figures. A time must come soon when the department does collect figures such as these and many of the others we have talked about today, but that is probably a subject for another day. In the mean time, I beg leave to withdraw the amendment. Amendment, by leave, withdrawn.
