Proceeding contribution from Lord Dholakia (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Lords on Tuesday, 17 January 2006. It occurred during Debate on bill and Committee proceeding on Immigration Asylum and Nationality Bill 2005-06.

Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Bill

Under the powers being granted to police officers at the rank of superintendent, which also arises in Clause 33, the police are now being given the additional powers of searches et cetera, which were previously available to immigration officers. I cannot see why that is being brought in.
