Proceeding contribution from Lord Clinton-Davis (Labour) in the House of Lords on Wednesday, 8 March 2006. It occurred during Debate on bill on Civil Aviation Bill.

Civil Aviation Bill

My Lords, I have put my name to this amendment because I think it is essential that this issue should be confronted. In my view, it demands international action. I regard extraordinary rendition as absolutely abhorrent. I am not persuaded that this Bill is the right vehicle for our views on this. We ought to return to this issue separately; I would welcome the views of the House on this subject. Unfortunately, we cannot currently do justice to that position. I want to make it plain, however, that I, among many Labour people, think that what is being envisaged and done in our name is absolutely unacceptable.
