Proceeding contribution from Lord Herbert of South Downs (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 9 January 2008. It occurred during Debate on bill on Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill.
Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill
I completely agree. What good do the Government think that the proposed clarification will do? Indeed, the Secretary of State did not suggest in his speech to the Labour party conference that there would just be a clarification. He said:"ββThe law on self-defence works much better than most people think, but not as well as it could or should.ββ" Surely that is a direct admission that the current law is not working, yet he says that he merely wants to restate it.
