Proceeding contribution from Lord Austin of Dudley (Labour) in the House of Commons on Monday, 21 April 2008. It occurred during Debate on bill on Finance Bill.
Finance Bill
If the hon. Gentleman expects anybody to take seriously his new-found concern for the poor and low paid, can he explain to us why his No. 1 tax reform proposal is inheritance tax reform to benefit multi-millionaires such as the shadow Chancellor and the Leader of the Opposition, or the abolition of stamp duty on shares to benefit multi-millionaire City traders? Can the hon. Gentleman tell us which way he voted on the minimum wage, the introduction of tax credits and the introduction of the winter fuel allowance, all of which show that Labour have been consistent in delivering better standards of living for the poor and low paid?
