Proceeding contribution from Lord Hoyle (Labour) in the House of Lords on Monday, 20 April 2009. It occurred during Committee of the Whole House (HL) and Debate on bill on Postal Services Bill [HL].
Postal Services Bill [HL]
I support what my noble friend said. He is right to draw attention to what has happened in the past in relation to the chairman and the strange behaviour that took place. It is no wonder that there are some suspicions, which no doubt my noble friend can clear up for us. Again, there is the question of where we are going to draw the line and there is the question of the responsibility of the trustee. At the end of the day, we are trying to make sure that the members are protected in the best way possible. That is why we are saying, ""without the consent of the trustee"." I hope that my noble friend can throw some light on this and on the role of the trustee in the future because, at the end of the day, we are trying to get rid of the fog, the mist and the mistrust that appear to exist at the moment with the members of the pension scheme.
