Proceeding contribution from Lord Darling of Roulanish (Labour) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 19 July 2005. It occurred during Debate on bill on Crossrail Bill.

Crossrail Bill

I shall allow the hon. Gentleman to intervene again in a few moments. Our instruction allows a full debate of the sort that the House wants. The other general point—I think that the hon. Member for North Southwark and Bermondsey raised it earlier—is that public policy issues such as freight policy or the integration of the railways are likely to be discussed less in the petitioning process and the Select Committee than in the Standing Committee. That is what the Standing Committee procedure is all about.
