Proceeding contribution from Lord Lucas (Conservative) in the House of Lords on Monday, 21 July 2008. It occurred during Committee of the Whole House (HL) and Debate on bill on Education and Skills Bill.
Education and Skills Bill
Before the noble Baroness does so, let me say that the more we discuss how this will operate in practice, the more it interests me. Presumably parents would retain the right to withdraw a child from school if they disapproved of the posting. If the school had said that the child had to go to boot camp and the parents did not like it, they could just withdraw the child from school. They do not lose control of that process. The noble Lord referred to provisions in existing law. I should be most grateful if he could point them out to me. I do not require the answer now but I would love to know so that I can study it before Report.
