Proceeding contribution from Lord Howard of Rising (Conservative) in the House of Lords on Tuesday, 3 February 2009. It occurred during Debate on bill on Banking Bill.

Banking Bill

My Lords, I thank the Minister for his kind remarks and I am glad that we are converging in our views on this Bill. I am very grateful to the Minister that there will be a chance to review this clause before Third Reading. The issues in the clause are too important not to be resolved in a manner that is satisfactory to the whole House and to the many noble Lords who have raised a number of important points, such as the use of ““desirable””, which the Minister justified as being in the public interest. I am not sure about that. I look forward to discussing with him the code he mentioned and to hearing how he proposes the narrowing and tightening of the wording in the clause. In the mean time, I beg leave to withdraw the amendment. Amendment 54 withdrawn.
