What the local community wants is confidence in the knowledge that the security arrangements are in place. It would be totally wrong to involve members of a local community in the detail of those arrangements—they would cease to be security arrangements if everyone knew what they were. We had an incident at Stansted Airport in which a plane crashed not far from the airfield. It was not a security matter, but initially it was thought that it could have been. Local people now want to know that the local police and the airport authorities are doing the right things. They accept that they will not be given the detail because they understand that these are security measures, which have to be kept secret. It is a matter of ensuring that the community is confident that the arrangements are in place. That is the right thing to do.
