The facts are these. The police authority meets in public. Its agendas are published. Members of the public can attend, and members of the press do attend unless an item is set out in Part 2 of the agenda and is thus restricted for security reasons or it is necessary to discuss delicate matters. The police authority is moving to direct the involvement of the public to basic command unit level so that more local people may become involved. The basic command unit committee will meet in public, and there are plenty of opportunities to do so. All the Thames Valley local authorities are represented on the police authority and, through their local representatives, people are able to make representations.
